Choose your Kind of Platform Bed

March 26th, 2010

Platform beds continue to gain popularity with today’s busy lifestyle. They feature simple lines and contribute to the minimalist theme’s clutter-free appeal. They are easy to match with other bedroom furniture pieces as they have a versatile design.

If you’re planning to get a platform bed, you can choose from a metal platform bed or a wood platform bed. Read on to know the differences between these two kinds and the advantages of each.

Wood Platform Bed

A wood platform bed gives your room a warm and inviting atmosphere. It is very durable and can even be passed down to your children. Some wooden beds, especially those made of softwoods, are left without a finish so this gives you a chance to paint it with a finish you prefer.

There are also wood platform beds with storage capacity under the bed, on the headboard, or on the footboard. These can be drawers for clothes or shelves for books. These beds enable you to maximize the use of your space as well as help keep your room organized.

Metal Platform Bed

A metal platform bed is a versatile choice. The bed has different height settings for the platform so you can make adjustments according to your preference. Metal beds come in different colors and can even be repainted to match a new color scheme. These beds can withstand changes in your preferred bedroom design. They save you money over time since you don’t have to buy a new bed every time you feel like changing your furniture and decor. They are also very durable and will last for many years.

If you’re not sure which kind would suit you best, determine what home design theme you want to go for. If you want your room to inspire a warm feeling, a wood platform bed would be perfect. If you want sleek furniture that gives a nod to the industrial or modern age, a metal bed would fit right in.

Contemporary Platform Bed

This kind of platform bed has a simple design and clean lines. It complements the minimalist style which features a clutter-free design. It usually has a distinctive solid color, for example a dark finish such as espresso. A contemporary platform bed is a low bed, which makes any room appear larger because there’s more space between the bed and the ceiling. Some beds have microfiber or leather padding on the headboard so that there’s a comfortable backrest when sitting in bed.

Asian or Japanese Influence Platform Bed

This style is like a contemporary platform bed in that it is a low bed and features simple lines. However, this platform bed is used with Japanese tatami mats, which are made with rice straw. It also incorporates the Asian principle of feng shui in its design.

Traditional Platform Bed

This platform bed follows the mission style of furniture design. It has a soft, warm look and is usually made with wood. It gives the room a traditional, homey feel and does not have the ornate or exquisite design of classic-styled furniture.

Transitional Platform Bed

This style is more modern compared to traditional platform bed style. A transitional design may use scrollwork in the headboard to modernize the traditional style.

Storage Platform Bed

To maximize the use of space, storage platform beds incorporate drawers underneath for more storage space. Some even have drawers embedded in the footboard. Others would have storage drawers incorporated in the headboard.

How Do You Make A Japanese Platform Bed?

November 5th, 2009

Are you ready to have an Asian inspired change in your bedroom? No need to get all worked up and you don’t have to spend much of your hard-earned money either. You can make or design your own Japanese platform bed so that you can sink into a Zen-inspired haven any time.

Before we start working on your platform bed, let’s make sure we understand a few things about the Japanese platform bed. This bed is designed with simple lines and gentle curves, which is said to promote well-being and good fortune. It is an uncomplicated yet contemporary and clutter-free addition to your space.

Now if you have a simple low platform bed, you can start with that. Paint it with a dark finish. This will go well with white or light-colored sheets. These colors complement the modern minimalist theme, which usually uses black, white, and neutral colors accented with dashes of bold colors.

You can use traditional tatami mats to separate the bed frame from people and objects. Tatami mats are made of straw and are usually used in Japanese homes. Aside from sleeping space, you can convert your bed into a serene meditation area with these tatami mats. To achieve balance, you can also place two nightstands on either side of the bed.

And there you have it, your own Japanese platform bed. Now you can relax in your Asian-inspired sanctuary without having to buy a new bed.

Nice Daybed for Your Room

August 10th, 2009

This daybed looks more like a sofa or loveseat for me. It can easily stand out from other day bed because of the unique retro design and it can moonlight both as a sofa and a daybed. The back support on this sofa is interesting as it shapes exactly as rectangular. If you use it as a sofa, it may not be as comfortable as other sectionals, but in your living room, it shows your guest how stylish you are.

Nice Veneer Platform Bed

July 14th, 2009

The color and the exterior of this bed itself show you what this bed is made of. The wood bed is made of natural Veneer and comes with 2 matching nice looking nightstands. Veneer represents thin slices of wood and it is usually less than 1/8 inch. If we put three or more layers of veneer together, it will become a plywood. Although the bed itself is only available in cherry finish, you still have the option for different color combination for the Headboard.
