How Do You Make A Japanese Platform Bed?

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

Are you ready to have an Asian inspired change in your bedroom? No need to get all worked up and you don’t have to spend much of your hard-earned money either. You can make or design your own Japanese platform bed so that you can sink into a Zen-inspired haven any time.

Before we start working on your platform bed, let’s make sure we understand a few things about the Japanese platform bed. This bed is designed with simple lines and gentle curves, which is said to promote well-being and good fortune. It is an uncomplicated yet contemporary and clutter-free addition to your space.

Now if you have a simple low platform bed, you can start with that. Paint it with a dark finish. This will go well with white or light-colored sheets. These colors complement the modern minimalist theme, which usually uses black, white, and neutral colors accented with dashes of bold colors.

You can use traditional tatami mats to separate the bed frame from people and objects. Tatami mats are made of straw and are usually used in Japanese homes. Aside from sleeping space, you can convert your bed into a serene meditation area with these tatami mats. To achieve balance, you can also place two nightstands on either side of the bed.

And there you have it, your own Japanese platform bed. Now you can relax in your Asian-inspired sanctuary without having to buy a new bed.

Mattress for Your Platform Bed

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Although you can sleep directly on the surface of a platform bed, it is always suggested that you add a mattress for extra comfort.

When you start shopping for the matters, you need to decide which mattress you want to buy. There are inner spring, latex and memory foam mattress. Well, there is no such a rule saying you should buy one type but rather it is a personal preference. My suggestion is to lay down on different types of mattresses and buy the one you feel most comfortable.

Once you decided the type of you wanted, you should think about how much you plan to spend. I suggest you spend as much as possible because a good night sleep is just critical. I can tell you it is much better than any types of energy drinks.

At last, don’t forget to check the warranty on the mattress as some special conditions may not be covered by warranties.

Best Wood for Bed Slats

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

When you start to build a platform bed yourself, have you ever thought about the best type of wood you would use for slats? There are lots of houses/building centers that will sell you what they call “pine” but are really spruce/pine. You really should ask for “# 2 southern yellow pine”, which is one of the strongest woods around. So it makes your bed more reliable and it will definitely last much longer.

Another option is to use DF as it is one of the strongest softwoods you can buy - it has a very high modulus of elasticity and is often specified for high load applications in beams and joists. DF is stronger than spruce, larch, southern or yellow pine, and far better than cedar or redwood.

Don’t Forget the Curtain

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Curtains usually are overlooked by people when it comes to decoration. People always think about what kind of bed or sofa they should buy, then they think about what loveseat and coffee table should buy. So what about curtains? Curtains generally serve two purposes: it controls the lighting and it acts as a decorating piece for the window.

If you decide to shop curtains online, one way to save your time is to shop by categories. On the other hand, if you choose to shop in a local home furnishing store, chances are you may get overwhelmed by the curtains hanging all over the place. If you are tired of your boring window or you feel like it is time to do something about lighting in your home, then it is time to treat yourself with stylish curtains.

The Luxury Spa

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

If people have enough budget, where should they spend? Health and wellness solutions probably would be a smart choice. One forum of luxury that most people craves for are spas.

Just so you know, the term spa usually refers to water treatment. This Witarium Spa by I-Beauty is an advanced treatment table that combines steam, Vichy shower and all the wrapping treatments.  I know it is not cheap, but in my opinion, nothing beats relaxing additions to your home.  If you have long-term investment in bonds and equities, this might be a better choice.

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Kids love things that are colorful and usually shaped as the animal. This “toy” is a great piece for your kids who are in their developmental stages. If you have this chair in the room, then I am sure the kids won’t climb your favorite sectionals, which may cost you over thousands of dollars. The kids will fall in love with a “frog chair” like this. The other great thing is that you do not need to worry about any stains would leave on the covers as it is removable and washable.

This chair does not have any hard surfaces and sharp edges so it will be safe for your kids to play with. It is only selling at $58.95 at Amazon.com.

Grey Bar - Blue Mirror

Monday, May 25th, 2009

This amazing full operating bar, headquartered at Grussels, is designed by Puresand. What attract me the most is the blue mirrors that cut in triangles and mounted against the wall. Not only it makes the bar a magical place, it creates more depth and tactility in the small space.  By taking a look at this place in different angle, i can only think about two words ” relaxing and dreaming”

Home redesign in Progress

Friday, May 15th, 2009

I am very glad that i found an in-progress home redesign. The author shared on his blog Velvet&Liene. This is too good to have it passed out.

All wall and draperies are in white. Instead of b buying a whole bedroom set, the author bought individual pieces separately. The custom bed is from Plantation and Gallbraith and Paul pillows are added. The glass night stand is from Aiden Gary while the turquoise lamps are from Grace Home. Wow, i can imagine how much time and thoughts are put into this deco.

A sofa is also decorated in white with a Paoul Textile pillow on it. A silk rug is selected to match all of the fabrics in the client’s bedroom.

So did you learn something from this? Sometimes before you redesign your room, what you need to do is just to close your eyes and imagine what you want it look like and write down what color, style would help you achieve your final goal.
