Having this bed at home, i would imagine myself sleeping at one of the most expensive hotels in the world. There are no other words to describe this bed  but fancy, fancy, fancy!  You can clearly see the two nightstands mounted on both sides of the bed. These swivel nightstands have chrome posts and wenge round tops providing the perfect place for storage.

Build a platform bed frame - Real Example

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

While i was doing some research on how to build a platform bed in the most cost-effective way, I found this awesome guide where Heather and John showed us how they spent the afternoon building the platform bed frame. They used materials such as MDF pieces and tools like miter saw and power drill.

The idea is to build 2 frames and stack on top of each other. This picture shows how’s it looked like as a finished piece:

To view the specific steps, you can visit their post here, i do wish they had videotaped the whole process and “youtube” it.

Build a Platform Bed

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

The economy seems just getting worse and worse everyday and unemployment rate just kept soaring. As a consumer, there are ways you can save on your furniture and the best way to save is not to buy a cheap one, it is DIY.

A typical platform bed can cost around $400-$2000 from any online vendors. If you find cheaper ones from other countries, you need take shipping and duties into account when looking at the prices posted. Therefore, the best solution for now is to build your own dream platform bed. It can be extremely simple where you don’t even need a headboard and a footboard.  It also depends on comfortable you want your bed to be, you can add a memory foam on top. It can get more complex if you want to add things like headboards, footboards, canopies and storage unit. Keep in mind this will add to the overall cost of building the bed as well. Although there are a lot of free plans around the web today, we do suggest you read this instruction on how to build a bed if you seriously thinking about building one for your family.
