American Furniture Retail Market in 2007 (I)

June 13th, 2008

During the year of 2007, many manufacturers who has been supplying the US market experienced the hardest time ever. A lot of manufacturers in Guang Dong, China have gone bankruptcy. A lot of other manufactures was confronted with insufficient order confirmations.

Many people think that 2006 could be the worst year for the furnishing market. Indeed, we have seen giant furniture retails like Levitz, Rhodes, Gabberts and Kronheims closed their stores. The sofa retailer Klaussner chose to close 23 stores, which have not made any profits for the company in the whole year. Facing a market and economy like this, what should wholesalers and retailers do?

Harlem’s CEO, Bruce Berman stated that  depite such a bad timing, if the furniture retailers can focus on their business and make improvements over time, they can still acquire a decent share in the shrinking market. He said that all merchdisers should know exactly what kind of products and services are expected.

One trend in the furniture market is the movement towards e-commerce. More and more retailers have started their own websites, either serves the website as an online catalog or a platform for online orders.

In general, we can divide the US furniture market into 9 categories:

  • Bedding
  • Master Bedroom
  • Youth Bedroom
  • Casual Dining
  • Formal Dining
  • Cocktail table
  • Fabric-covered Sofa
  • Leather-covered Sofa
  • Recliner

Among these 9 categories, we can further divided them into upper, middle and lower level in terms of quality and price.

For beds, the best sellers are beds at prices about $700-$900, making up for approximately 26%. For youth bedrooms, the best sellers are about $300-$400.  The situation is slightly different from the dining room market. It seems that American values the dining room set more than bedroom. Therefore, the upper level dining sets are the best sellers. Now you might be wondering what could be the profit margin for US wholesalers. Can they survive in the long term?

Generally, American manufactures adds 40% to the price. Thus, If one set is priced at $100, the price of that set leaving one of the ports in China is about $45.  Next time, we are going to predict the the outlook of market for years 2008-2011.

Payperpost for individual bloggers

January 25th, 2008

Company do blogs to promote company brand, products and keep their customers updated about any products or service news of the company. Usually, if the company can manage the blog in a right way, it can increase its revenue by 20%-40% than if a online business operates without a blog.

However, an individual blogger can have serveral purposes when creating a blog. For example, he/she may just want to share his or her idea to the public, or maybe just want to have fun, or maybe, looking for ways to make money! There are certain advertisers there looking for people who can blog about their company, products and services. On one hand, it helps them generate some buzz, on the other hand, the link from blogs becomes part of their link building strategy. A link from blog can be natural as opposed to a paid link. We need to find a way to match the demands and supplies. That’s how the whole economy works, right? Payperpost provides such a bridge to bloggers and advertisers. Bloggers can sign up there and then find qualified advertisers to drive traffic to their blogs. What’s great about payperpost is that we can categorize our blogs and look for qualified advertisers so that whatever you do is relevant to the topic of your blog. What’s more, it offers a PPP tool that bloggers can use to place on their blog. With this piece of script, a badge will be displayed on the blog and it shows a image saying “hire me”. It is telling the advertisers that this blog is open for posts and thus advertisers can easily contact the bloggers for ways of advertising.

Payperpost also offers assurance for advertisers. As a advertiser, you may be worried that a blog has insufficient traffic or a low PR. Don’t worry, payperpost only accept blogs that meets certain qualities. Advertisers can decide what price they want to pay and they can specify what link must be included in the post. If you pay high enough, your request will show on the homepage of Payperpost as “Big Green”.

Right Mattress for Your Bed

January 16th, 2008

Time for a new bed? Make sure you get the right mattress and boxspring! That may seem like an obvious thing to
say, but choosing the proper mattress can be the difference between
a restful and healthy sleep, and “not so much.”

Some of the things you should consider when buying a new
mattress are: the amount of back support, firmness, number and types of coils, size and mattress brand. You can
even buy a “no-flip” mattress if you never plan to turn your mattress over (every year or so). Price is always a
consideration (for most people). A good mattress and boxspring set can
range in price from a few hundred dollars, to thousands of dollars! Like many other things in life, you often
get what you pay for.

If you’re doing a little research on the Internet before you make any final decisions, you
may want to take a look at www.mattressknowledge.com.
